Students from the College of Medicine at Godfrey Okoye University participated in the first phase of a comprehensive course on Basic DNA Science and Criminal Justice at the DNA Learning Center (DNALC) Nigeria.
The training commenced with an introductory session on the use of the micropipette, a critical tool in laboratory work. The students practiced handling the micropipette to become proficient with this essential apparatus.
Mr. Michael Okoro, Assistant Director of DNALC Nigeria, delivered an engaging lecture on DNA basics. He covered the structure and function of nucleic acids in living organisms, providing a foundational understanding for the students.
The hands-on segment of the course involved extracting DNA from hair follicles donated by the students. This DNA will be preserved for further analysis in the second phase of the course, where students will apply their newfound knowledge to more advanced techniques.
This initial training marks a significant step in equipping the students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge crucial for their future careers in medicine and criminal justice.
